Air New Zealand has confirmed three additional weekly Auckland–Rarotonga rotations from October 2026 through April 2027, taking the route to eleven flights per week at peak. The extra services use 787-9 equipment with a 27-seat Business Premier cabin, opening the door to genuine premium incentive product on what has historically been a leisure-dominated route.
For group planners the interesting timings are the new Tuesday and Saturday departures from Auckland at 7:45pm, arriving Rarotonga at 12:30am the same date (Cook Islands sits a day behind). These tie cleanly into evening arrivals from Los Angeles, Singapore and Hong Kong, meaning North American and Asian groups can transit Auckland with a same-day forward connection rather than overnighting.
The return Rarotonga–Auckland services depart at 1:30am, which is awkward for individual leisure travellers but works well for groups with morning onward connections to Queenstown or Christchurch — your clients sleep on the aircraft and arrive into the South Island fresh for a first-day touring start.
Hotel inventory in Rarotonga remains the constraint.
