300m sandstone walls dropping into a palm-filled gorge halfway between Uluru and Alice Springs. The Rim Walk (6km, 3–4 hours) is the great walk of the Red Centre — and arguably better than Uluru.
What to do
Rim Walk at sunrise — start by 6am in summer. Helicopter flight over the canyon. Kings Creek Walk (2.6km return, flat) is the easy alternative.
Where to stay
Kings Canyon Resort is the only option on site. Many travellers stop one night between Uluru and Alice Springs.
