A 30-minute ferry from Fremantle: car-free, ringed by 63 beaches, and inhabited by 10,000 quokkas — the small marsupial that has launched a million selfies. Day-trip easily, but a night at Samphire or the Lodge is worth it.
What to do
Hire a bike and circle the island (22km, half a day). Swim at The Basin, Salmon Bay, and Little Salmon Bay. Snorkel the wrecks at Thomson Bay.
