Abel Tasman National Park

Experience · Marlborough & Nelson, New Zealand

Abel Tasman National Park

Granite headlands, golden-sand bays, and turquoise water on the northern tip of the South Island. The Abel Tasman Coast Track (60km, 3–5 days) is one of NZ's Great Walks — but most travellers do it as a day kayak or water-taxi-and-walk.

What to do

Water-taxi drop at Bark Bay, walk back to Mārahau (15km, 5 hours). Sea kayak with Wilsons or Abel Tasman Kayaks — overnight options stop at Awaroa or Anchorage. Fur seals at Tonga Island.

Where to stay

Awaroa Lodge inside the park is the standout (boat or walk-in only). Split Apple Retreat near the entrance for boutique luxury.
