Blenheim is the centre of Marlborough — the region that put New Zealand on the wine map. 150+ wineries, almost all within 20 minutes of the town. Sauvignon blanc is the calling card, but the chardonnay and pinot are increasingly serious.

Cloudy Bay and Brancott Estate for the founding names. Greywacke (Kevin Judd, Cloudy Bay's original winemaker) for the cult version. Fromm and Dog Point for the small-producer pinot.
Where to stay
Marlborough Lodge (heritage convent) and Bellbird Lodge for the boutique stays. Hotel d'Urville in town for character.
