Te Papa (free entry, 4+ hours). Cable car up to the Botanic Garden. Mount Victoria lookout for the harbour view. Weta Workshop tour for the LOTR/Avatar effects fans.
Where to eat
Logan Brown and Hiakai for the marquee dinners. Floriditas, Loretta, and Olive on Cuba St for the all-day picks. Wellington has more cafés per capita than New York.
